Determination of Cause of Death (DeCoDe)
To determine the cause of a death, a DeCoDe panel consisting obstertricians, paediatricians, neonatologists, microbiologists, pathologists, medical epidemiologist and other scientists/experts has been formed. Currently there are total 9 panel members. Panelists receive case packets which include demographic data, MITS (Minimally Invasive Tissue Sampling) report, clinical records of child and mother, obstetrical reports, laboratory reports, and verbal autopsy report of a particular case to review individually and determine the immediate and underlying cause of death. Base on the availability of case packets, panel meetings in presence of all the panel members are being arranged to finalize the immediate and underlying cause of death. After confirming the cause of death, a CHAMPS team visits the deceased family to inform them within 4 months of death.
